<< Return to news list Funding can be applied toward a new center scoreboard, locker room improvements, new portable chairs for floor seating, floor covering and other projects within the builiding.

This $2 Million grant supplements an earlier state grant for nearly $700,000 which has been used to erect a new outdoor marquee sign, install LED lighting in the arena, develop Wi-Fi through the building and final project getting underway shortly is an upgrade to the sound system.  Senator Little has secured additional funding for painting the steel beams in the arena.

EDC President Ed Bartholomew (Mayor when the building was constructed and opened in 1979) who worked on the various grant applications and requests to the state thanked Governor Cuomo, Senator Little and Assemblyman Dan Stec along with the Civic Center Coalition for their ongoing advocacy and commitment to this facility and region.  Governor Cuomo told Mayor Diamond and Ed Bartholomew that he would assist in the renovations of the Civic Center which he has done.

Bartholomew stated “This level of funding will significantly change the landscape and improve the ability for this center to compete for shows and events. These improvements will showcase our “Center” in time for next year’s ECHL All Star game in January 2017.  The Civic Center is home to NHL owned Calgary Flames’ ECHL franchise Adirondack Thunder.”

Mayor John A. Diamond said “Today’s announcement is the result of many parties and groups working together to improve the Civic Center starting right at the top with Governor Andrew Cuomo.  We thank Governor Cuomo, Senator Little, Assemblyman Stec and the Civic Center Coalition for their assistance”.
