2009 Project Priorities for EDC

image indexWhile a significant recession presently grips the nation, EDC is focused on projects that will develop new opportunities in the future in Warren County. Some of our top broad-based initiatives for 2009 include maintaining our focus on growth in downtown Glens Falls, supporting the Exit 18 development zone in Queensbury, furthering progress inside the “Blue Line” of the Adirondack Park, and moving ahead with comprehensive plans for the South Queensbury/airport corridor.

Marketing Warren County

Presenting the strengths of Warren County to outside companies and real estate brokers remains an important focus of EDC’s activities through our active direct-mail program, person-to-person networking, and attendance at various industry trade shows.

In 2008, EDC developed two brochures to support these efforts. One highlights our region through the use of a hand-illustrated map (pictured below on the left), showing the ideal location of Warren County within Tech Valley as well as its proximity to Montreal, Boston, and New York City. (See the whole Warren County brochure with the map.)

EDC also produced a marketing piece for Queensbury Business Park (above right), focusing on the park’s shovel-ready status and its prime location. (View the Queensbury Business Park brochure.)

EDC Thanks Former Chairman Daniel Burke
EDC extends its sincere thanks to Daniel Burke, local president of NBT Bank, for his commitment to moving Warren County ahead during his four years as EDC chairman from 2005-2008. Among many accomplishments, Mr. Burke oversaw the development of the 56-acre Queensbury Business Park and helped EDC to secure over $1 million in grants to benefit projects in the region, such as Gore Mountain’s expansion and the redevelopment of several buildings in downtown Glens Falls. He also played a key role in developing the infrastructure at Exit 18, supporting Tribune Media’s new headquarters.

Empire Zone Program Update
