Finch Paper Purchases Former Glens Falls Armory

In April, Finch Paper LLC submitted the winning bid of $207,000 for purchase of the former Glens Falls Armory on Warren Street. The 38,000-square-foot, three-story building, constructed in the late 1890s, was home to the National Guard until last summer. The Armory was sold at public auction in Colonie by the New York State Office of General Services.

Finch leaders have recently been engaged in preliminary discussions with representatives of The Hyde Collection art museum regarding the museum’s possible future use of the property. The internationally recognized museum is located on Warren Street, adjacent to the armory property. Finch Paper has no plans at this time to use the armory for manufacturing or warehouse operations.

The histories of the Finch mill and The Hyde Collection are indelibly interwoven. The late Charlotte Pruyn Hyde, who established the museum with her husband, Louis, was one of three daughters of Samuel Pruyn, who co-founded the Finch company in 1865.

“Both Finch and The Hyde have our full support, and we will do whatever we can from our office to help bring a project to fruition,” said EDC Warren County President Leonard Fosbrook. “The Hyde is an extraordinarily important cultural institution in our community, and having it grow and thrive benefits our region tremendously.”

In 2008, EDC Warren County proactively purchased a property adjacent to the armory with the idea that it might be beneficial to future owners.
