LOOKING FORWARD, LOOKING BACK

Keynote Address: GLOBALFOUNDRIES News on Future Jobs and Technology
globalfoundriesEDC held its annual luncheon on Friday, May 1, at Great Escape Lodge in Queensbury, with approximately 250 business, government, and education leaders in attendance (see lunch photos). During the keynote presentation, Terence A. Caudell, the Director of Wafer Manufacturing and the Fab 2 Project Manager for GLOBALFOUNDRIES, and Travis Bullard, the company’s Public Affairs and Communications Manager, shared information about the GLOBALFOUNDRIES chip fab plant under construction in nearby Malta and Stillwater (Saratoga County).

EDC Wins Marketing Awards from NYSEDC
EDC received two awards for its marketing communications materials at the May conference of economic development organizations from throughout New York State. EDC received the “Best of Class” award for Development Brochures for its promotional piece about Queensbury Business Park, and also captured top honors for its 2008 Annual Report, receiving a Certificate of Excellence. Empire Zone Program Update
In a listing released at the
empire zoneend of May indicating companies that face decertification under the Empire Zone program, there were no companies listed from Warren County. The Empire State Development Corporation’s initial list, and commentary about the matter, was published by the Times Union. Queensbury Business Park News
QBPEDC is actively marketing Queensbury Business Park to site locators and businesses interested in the park’s 2 to 9-acre lots. The infrastructure and road for the 56-acre Queensbury Business Park are complete. The New York Army National Guard’s Queensbury Readiness Center is the park's first completed facility.


CEG Presents Medical Device Industry Panel Featuring Keltjens, Erickson, and Fosbrook

Three medical device industry experts will be featured as the Center for Economic Growth (CEG) presents its next Bioconnex Forum “Medical Device Industry: Past, Present, Future.” The forum, co-sponsored by MedTech, will be held Wednesday, June 17 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Queensbury Hotel, 88 Ridge Street. The three panelists will be Jan Keltjens, president and chief executive officer of AngioDynamics, Queensbury; Heather Erickson, president of MedTech, Syracuse; and Len Fosbrook, president of EDC Warren County.
