The Future of EDC: Budget Update
Recent news coverage has indicated that EDC’s 2010 budget may be affected by cuts in funding from local municipalities and Warren County. EDC has been actively engaged with government representatives who are deliberating over budget cuts, and respectfully providing information about our proven record of success.
Warren County needs EDC, now more than ever!
While proposed 2010 budget cuts may seem wise in these tough economic times, they have high opportunity costs in terms of lost job growth and reduced tax revenue. A reduction in EDC’s funding levels will jeopardize the future expansion of this region.
If EDC is not properly funded, who will …
- Network with regional economic development organizations and build public-private sector partnerships?
- Increase inter-municipal cooperation?
- Resolve relocation and development hurdles?
- Represent Warren County at national and international trade shows?
- Develop infrastructure for critical pro-growth projects, such as Queensbury Business Park, Gore Mountain Interconnect, and Exit 18?
- Administer the next wave of economic development initiatives from New York State?
- Manage grants from outside sources such as National Grid, HUD, and member items?
- Capitalize on Tech Valley growth opportunities such as GLOBALFOUNDRIES?
As we mark our 10th anniversary in 2009, those of us at EDC reaffirm our commitment to helping Warren County grow and prosper into the future. If you have a story about how EDC has assisted your organization, we encourage you to make your perspective known.
