2010 FALL LUNCHEON

top storySUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher discussed The Power of SUNY, the State University of New York's strategic plan, at the EDC Fall Luncheon on Wednesday, September 29, at Hiland Park Country Club in Queensbury.

Approximately 200 regional business, education, political, and community leaders attended the event to hear the Chancellor speak. Nancy Zimpher was introduced by Dr. Ronald Heacock, President of SUNY Adirondack and an EDC Board member. Serving as master of ceremonies for the event was Mark Behan, President of Behan Communications in Glens Falls and the EDC Board secretary.

EDC to Attend Major Semiconductor Event

NY Loves NanoEDC's Economic Development Specialist John Wheatley will be traveling to San Jose, California, in early November as part of a ten-person group representing NY Loves Nanotech at the Semiconductor Industry Association's Forecast & Awards Conference & Dinner.

EDC is working in partnership with the other members of NY Loves Nanotech to be one of several corporate sponsors hosting a networking reception for the technology executives. John Wheatley of EDC will provide information about Warren County's economic and business advantages and its available shovel-ready locations.

New Angel Fund Invites Investment
Members and Entrepreneurs

EnyaA new angel investment fund, Eastern New York Angels, plans to help job growth and economic expansion in Tech Valley by providing seed funding and mentoring to young companies. ENYA is in the process of attracting its initial members, and by January 2011 plans to be ready to invest in regional businesses.

EDC Sponsors Tourism Study

EDC recently sponsored a review and analysis of Warren County's tourism sector, with a goal of both increasing sales tax revenue to the County and supporting future tourism initiatives.

Foreign Trade Zone Status Secured
for Warren County

Within the past few months, Warren County has joined nine other counties in the upstate region as part of an expanded Foreign Trade Zone. Some of the business benefits of having FTZ status include duty exemption, deferral or reduction (inverted tariff); other cash flow benefits; merchandise processing fee reduction; streamlined logistics; quota avoidance; and other benefits, such as better inventory control and security leading to better compliance with Customs requirements. EDC will be marketing these new benefits as part of its recruiting efforts to attract businesses to the County.
