Ames Goldsmith Honor
The US Department of Commerce paid a visit to the Ames Electro Materials Plant on Pruyn's Island Drive to present Ames Goldsmith President Ronald Davies with an Export Achievement Certificate, which recognizes businesses for opening new foreign markets. Press reports state that Ames Goldsmith ships goods to Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, England, Germany, Canada, Indonesia, and China among other countries.
The multi-award-winning company was first established in 1860 as the Ames Chemical Company when the business primarily refined silver from scrap photographic plates. Since then it has diversified into producing silver nitrate, oxide powders, and flakes. According to its Web site, the company also refines ethylene oxide silver catalyst and other selected silver-bearing scrap.
EDC was instumental in helping the compny become an Empire Zone Certified Enterprise and also linked Ames Goldsmith to further funding from Empire State Development.
